Update on Southern Region Oireachtas Results

The following message is from Southern Region Oireachtas co-chair Myra Watters, ADCRG:

Thank you to everyone for being patient while we resolved some issues with regards to the number of Qualifiers who will advance to World Championships in 2009, to represent the Southern Region. Some errors were made, however I am happy to announce, that under advice from An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, all qualifiers will remain in place, as announced at the recent Southern Region Oireachtas.

In addition, they will be joined by the following dancers:
- Sara Barton, McGinley Academy (Under 20 ladies)
- Moira Ragen, Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance (Under 14 girls)

I apologize that these dancers were not announced on the day, and that they missed their moment on stage. But I am happy to be able to acknowledge their achievement here.

It is a testament to the growth and development of the Southern Region that we are now dealing with issues such as maximizing the number of qualifiers and large numbers of World medal holders, which are both relatively new phenomena in our region. We wish the very best of luck to all of our Qualifiers for a successful and enjoyable World Championships in Philadelphia.

Under 13 Girls result:

In addition to the above results, there has been a slight revision of the results of Under 13 girls, due to a transposing error. Dancer Haley Tanner, from the Watters School, now moves into 5th place. All awards and sashes given on the day, should be retained by the other dancers in this competition. Our apologies to Haley for this belated result and congratulations to all of the dancers for an excellent competition.

From the Webmaster....

Thanks to all for visiting the 2008 Southern Region Oireachtas website over the past year. With the Os now in the past, it's time to turn a new leaf for this site. Beginning today, we'll no longer be posting here... but no fear, information on the Southern Region isn't far away:

  • 2009 North American Irish Dance Championships - The Southern Region is hosting the 2009 national championships in Nashville. Until there's a website up and running for the NAIDCs find information on the main Southern Region website at this link.

  • 2009 Southern Region Oireachtas - We're not quite up and running yet, but keep an eye on this space for information about the 2009 Southern Region Oireachtas in Dallas, Texas.

We'll keep the 2008 information on this site for a while, so feel free to look around.

A Message from the Regional Director

On behalf of the IDTANA-Southern Region executive committee, I would like to thank all of those individuals who dedicated so much time over the last year to making the 2008 Southern Region Oireachtas a success. Congratulations also go to the dancers who have qualified to represent the Southern Region at the 2009 Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne in Philadelphia this coming April, as well as those who qualified to attend the North American Irish Dance Championships in Nashville in July.

Scoring errors in the 2008 Southern Region Oireachtas results have been brought to the attention of the executive committee. The committee is conducting a complete review of all competitions. Any dancer, and their teacher, involved in a change in placement or Worlds qualifications will be treated with the full respect of the committee and will be notified personally. It is my goal to resolve these issues with the best interests of the dancers in mind. Corrected results will be issued to teachers and will be updated on the IDTANA-Southern Region website in the near future.

- W. Sean Culkin, TCRG

Additional Q&A

Q: Is there an admission fee for the Oireachtas.

No. At the time of registration, a pre-admission fee of $25 per family was charged which will entitle family members and guests unlimited access to the Oireachtas ballrooms. (i.e. no wristbands will be sold during the event)

Q: Is there a staffed dress sale room at the Oireachtas?

According to the event co-chairs, you will be able to hang dresses for sale in the Vendor room, but it will not be manned. The hosts suggest that you do not attach the cape, bloomer or headdress -- that way they are less likely to be taken. Please be sure to include a contact number for your dresses.

Q: Will you be posting live results?

Feisworx is providing tabulation and will post results to their website. We're hoping, too, to provide a list of recallers when that's available via the Feisworx blog. We will also post results here on this site as soon as we can after they are official.

Q: There's a lot of information to keep track of. How do I find it on the website?

Please use the list of Quick Links we've created to help you find info.

A note from the webmaster: Updates to this site throughout the weekend will be sporadic as everyone involved in the committee has additional responsibilites (and actual competitions!) they will be involved with. The goal is to get results posted as quickly as possible, but we encourage you to use the Feisworx sites for updates.
